Lighting that works. Lighting that transforms.

What does an event lighting service include?

Event lighting combines suitable fixtures, safe installation and, where needed, lighting control and technical operation. It might mean four lights illuminating a speaker, coloured LED lights adding atmosphere to a dinner, programmed moving-head effects for an awards ceremony, or weather-resistant outdoor lighting for trees and pathways.

Hillside can provide equipment, advice, setup and lighting operation. You don't need to know the technical specifications before getting in touch — tell us what you're organising, where it is and what you'd like the lighting to achieve.

Working from Castlemorton, near Malvern, Hillside provides lighting for events and installations throughout Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, with free equipment delivery within a 20-mile radius. We can also travel across the UK for suitable specialist projects.

Stage and presentation lighting

Make the people on stage easy to see.

Not every event needs a complicated lighting show. For a small stage, meeting or presentation, a straightforward setup of four lights — commonly two on either side — may be enough to light one or two speakers clearly.

Simple arrangements can often be installed and left running without an operator for the whole event. More complex stage arrangements can be planned around the performance and venue.

Typical levels of lighting

These are examples, not fixed packages. The venue, equipment, installation and technician time all influence the recommended approach.

Atmosphere and control

More than switching lights on.

Colour and movement can help mark the different moments of an event. Hillside supplies coloured LED lighting for room atmosphere, as well as moving-head stage lighting that can be programmed to respond to a show or presentation.

DMX control allows compatible fixtures to work together in coordinated colours and sequences. For more involved shows, programming takes place after installation, with a technician operating the lighting during the event.

This can mean different looks for arrivals, speeches, award presentations and entertainment — rather than one lighting setting from start to finish.

Outdoor & architectural effects

Bring outdoor spaces to life.

From illuminated trees to coloured light across a park setting, Hillside has experience creating lighting installations beyond the stage.

Outdoor lighting and installations

Planned for the setting. Built for the conditions.

Hillside uses IP-rated outdoor lighting for features such as trees, landscaped areas and pathways. Hillside has worked on installations involving individual trees throughout sizeable parks.

Outdoor fixtures can be set to chosen colours and, where appropriate, coordinated in colour-changing sequences. The practical side matters just as much: cable routes and power requirements need to be considered, with heavy-duty rubber cable covers available where runs cross areas used by people.

Whether the aim is atmosphere or useful illumination, an outdoor lighting proposal starts with the site and the result you want.

Practical considerations
  • Location, site access and available power
  • Weather exposure and IP-rated fixtures
  • Lighting coverage and placement
  • Cable routing and protective covers
  • Static colours or coordinated sequences

Outdoor lighting is assessed for the individual site; not every fixture or effect is appropriate in every location.

Art projections & projection mapping

Transforming buildings and spaces through light.

From architectural lighting and large-scale art projections to creative visual installations, light and imagery can give familiar buildings and public spaces an entirely different character.

Our team’s experience includes creative lighting and installation work. Hillside can discuss architectural lighting, projected imagery and projection mapping for arts projects, festivals, public installations and special events, with the technical approach shaped around the location and creative idea.

Common questions

Lighting & Effects FAQs.

What lighting do I need for my event?

It depends on whether you need people or a stage clearly illuminated, want to change the atmosphere of a venue, or need moving and programmed effects. Hillside can recommend an approach based on the space, programme and audience.

Can I hire lighting without hiring sound equipment?

Yes. Although lighting and sound are often booked together, Hillside can provide lighting as a standalone service.

Can lighting match the colours or feel of an event?

Coloured LED fixtures can create a coordinated look, and DMX-compatible lighting can be synchronised. Share the colours, mood or visual result you want when discussing the event.

What is the difference between basic stage lighting and programmed effects?

Basic stage lighting may be a fixed arrangement that stays on throughout the event. Programmed lighting uses controllable fixtures, including moving heads, with sequences and cues planned in advance and a technician operating the show where required.

Can you provide lighting for outdoor events and trees?

Yes. Hillside has experience illuminating trees and larger park settings using suitable IP-rated outdoor lighting. Site conditions, access, power and cabling affect the setup.

Will I need a lighting technician throughout?

Not always. A simple static arrangement may be installed and left operating. Larger programmed shows generally need substantial preparation and an operator during the event.

Do you provide lighting stands, truss and installation?

Hillside provides lighting stands, truss bars and technical setup as appropriate to the project. The required supports and installation arrangements depend on the venue and equipment.

Where does Hillside provide event lighting?

Our core area is the Three Counties, with other UK locations considered depending on the scale and requirements of the project.
